Tips from Harry Josh on how to achieve the look of the moment pumped up with tons of volume

All over the runways, red carpets, and the hottest TV shows we’ve been seeing gorgeous looks with tons of volume. The great thing is that it’s easy, it’s sexy, and everyone can wear it. You can easily create it at home. Take your hair from all down and full of body to an elegant up-do (or pony) that still showcases voluminous hair.

To prime hair for high-volume styles, it’s important to choose the right products that nourish without weighing hair down. That’s why a lightweight shampoo and conditioner are an ideal way to prep for a volume-building styling session.

Once hair is towel-dry, spray an ample amount of John Frieda Luxurious Volume Lavish Lift Root Booster at the roots and focus on the crown of your head.

It’s important to separate the hair into sections using a fine tooth comb to ensure you’re spraying the Root Booster right at the roots.

While drying hair – use a round natural bristle brush like a Marilyn Brush. Usually women who are looking to achieve volume have thin or finer hair so a natural bristle brush prevents breakage.

When blow drying, it’s important to use a nozzle like the one on FHI Heat Nano Weight Pro, to aim directly at the roots.

Using the bristle brush and the nozzle, dry hair in sections by pulling up from the roots to further enhance the look of volume, specifically around the crown.

Volume can play a part in all different styles – even up-dos. Try a simple low pony or loose bun or sweeping hair into a side ponytail.

For a chic look try using a simple black hair tie – If you like to get creative, use a piece of leather or ribbon that you can get at your local fabric store to hold hair in place.

Leave a few pieces down in the front to create an elegant look that’s still fun and playful.

Spring is Coming!! Really! Get Your Wardrobe Ready.

While snow continues to fall all over the country and here in New York, it is still not too early to start thinking about spring. .

You want to start adding a few “spring trend” pieces into your existing wardrobe with a few lighter fabrics and some color.

Look for a longer length dress in jersey knit. It will be the perfect early spring dress. Wear a long sleeve tee under it on a cooler days and on warmer days wear it solo.

Pick up a v neck cashmere sweater in a color. Brights are back this spring, so go for a bold green, blue, orange or red sweater to brighten up your jeans or that straight skirt in your closet.

A skirt with some great patterned or textured tights — not heavy opaque — gives a lighter look to some fall pieces.

Add an ankle boot or a peek-a bootie  instead of your high boots.

Add a colored or neutral handbag in taupe or grey , or go bold with orange…it is a hot color this spring.

Look for a lightweight trench coat. It is a “must have ”  piece.

Stripes are big, so look for them in tops and dresses.

Botox and Fillers…Answers to Your Questions.

With the growing popularity of botox and other fillers, I’ve had a couple of reader questions that I decided to investigate. Here’s what the experts say.

QUESTION:

I have been getting botox and filler injections for years and all of a sudden I am getting a lot of bruising after my injections. What can be causing this and should I change my doctor?

There are several OTC (over the counter) medications that can be leading to the brusing. Avoid the following products one week before you get your injections.

Fish oils

Omega 3

Red wine

Gibko Biloba

Aspirin

Plavix

Ginger supplements

Multi-vitamins

Anti-inflammatory drugs

QUESTION:

My friend tells me I shouldn’t go to the gym the day I have  an injection..is that true?

Most doctors recommend that for AT LEAST four hours after an injection that you DO NOT

Lay down

Exercise

Get you hair colored

Wash or blow dry your hair

Don’t get your hair colored

Don’t wash or bow dry your hair

Touch the area

Travel by air

QUESTION:

I used to love the results I got from Restylane but I m not happy with the results of my  injections anymore. What’s going on?

Restylane will build up over time and at some point I would suggest that you ask your dermatologist to dissolve the Restylane build up and start fresh. Feel inside your mouth and if you feel a deep ridge along what we consider your “smile lines”  (nasal labial folds) you may want to dissolve them. Talk to your doctor.

Looking “First Class” in Coach!

Alas, it is true. We all can’t afford a ticket in first class or business class. Coach offers a great no frills ways to travel, but you can step off the plane at least LOOKING like you had a comfortable trip. Here are a few tips!

Wear long pants with Lycra. They’re much more comfortable than jeans.

Take a pashmina that you can use a blanket.

Wear a dark colors in case you spill something on yourself.

Wear socks so you are comfortable taking off your shoes.

Make sure the shoes you wear are easy to get off and on.

Bring your earphones. Why pay extra for this item when you own them already and yours are probably more comfortable.

Bring hand lotion to soothe your chapped skin.

A good book is a must on a long flight. Or invest in a Kendall and bring along 10 books at a time!

If you have shoulder length hair, use a scrunchy to help keep your blow dry in great shape. DO NOT USE a rubber band!

Bring along a makeup remover wipe placed in a zip-lock. It feels great to be able to take your makeup off on a long flight.

Don’t want a completely bare face? Buy some tinted moisturizer. It is easy to apply in your seat without streaks so there’s no need to wait in  the bathroom line. It feels great with the extra moisturizer. Add a little cream blush and you will give look more wide awake!

Wait till you land to put on lipstick. This is a great time to use a nourishing lip balm.
