Your Guy and a Tie…..

Remember when a neck tie was a MUST for the office or an evening out?  While the rules of tie wearing are certainly less strict these days, there are still times when wearing one is necessary and the man in your life should always be prepared to “tie one on”…

Did you know the early Romans wore scarves around their necks in an early form of neck-wear? French officers in the 1600s wore neckerchiefs and made them popular throughout Europe. Louis XlV employed a tailor to create a collection of cravats made of lace and ribbon. During the mid 19th Century the styles were made soft linen and muslin. Pre-tied ties came during the industrial revolution and in 1924 a New York tailor was the first to patent his process of cutting the fabric on the bias and sewing strips together.

Did you know these basics?

  • Wear a white tie with a tailcoat.
  • Wear a black tie with a tuxedo. You can also wear a formal pattern or solid  color bow tie.
  • There are  four ways to tie a tie: Windsor, half Windsor, four in hand or bow tie.

The classic  knot is the half Windsor.  A thicker gauge fabric will always look more expensive and always lie just a little away from the shirt — this look is expensive and sophisticated.

  • Show power
  • Bring attention to your face
  • Complement your suit color and the color of your shirt
  • Enhance your skin tone and hair color.
  • Say something about your personality.
  • Ca make an outfit more formal or more casual.
  • Add color and style to any man’s wardrobe.

Keep your Nails Fungus Free!

Nail Fungus is an infection effecting about 40 million people here in the U.S.   The causes can range from having pedicures with unsterilized instruments to going barefoot at the gym.

When you choose a place for your pedicure, cleanliness, not price, should be the determining factor.  Look for sanitized tools. Do they use new buffers and files on every client? Can you bring your own?

–          Do they use removable liners for the spa chairs?

–          Do they use a stainless steel bowl and sanitize it after every client?

–          If not, do they use disinfectant solutions between each patient?

–          Do they have an autoclave to sterilize the instruments?

Nail fungus is an exceptionally embarrassing medical complaint and it is not easily treatable. If your toenail starts turning thick, yellow and brittle por there is  a separation of the toenail from the skin, then you may have a fungal infection.

There is a prescription medication on the market called Lamisil, which your doctor can order for you, but again, the fungus does not go away quickly…and check out the side effectes! Wow!

Some swear by home remedies and here is a list of the most popular.

Using Listerine Mouthwash. Mouthwash contains several compounds and alcohols like salicylate thymol and eucalyptol which combine to form a strong toenail fungus treatment. Soak your toes daily.

Warm Water and Natural Apple Cider Vinegar. Soak your feet in warm water and natural apple cider vinegar mixed in equal proportion daily.

Tea Tree Oil and Lavender Oil . Tea tree oil is natural antibiotic and lavender will help fight the infection and prevent skin irritation, as it has antiseptic properties. Put equal amount of tea tree oil and lavender oil on a cotton ball or swab daily.

Hydrogen Peroxide. Use a mixture of 3% concentration of hydrogen peroxide with vinegar or water as a soaking solution to help heal toenail fungus. Hydrogen peroxide is one of the safest and most cost effective ways to treat toenail fungus.

Massage Vicks Vapor Rub on toenail and in a matter of days the toe nail will start turning dark .The dark color means the vicks is killing the fungus. As the toenail grows out you will cut the toenails and soon your toenails will not only look healthy but will be fungus free. Rub Vicks VapoRub on your toenails daily.

Happy Holidays

May Peace be your gift at Christmas

Hello Dear Friends,

Tis…. the season and I hope you are full of the spirit of Christmas…

This year I learned that changes really do bring new opportunities. Four and a half years ago I began a new adventure when I moved to San Francisco to work as an on-air correspondent for Disney’s “The View From the Bay.”  Working in front of the camera was a new experience for me, and I soon discovered I loved my work and new life in San Francisco.  So while I was both surprised and saddened to see that show end its run, I realized that the cancellation of “The View From the Bay” still brought me new opportunities, and I am now blessed to be living in New York, close to my daughter, Erica.

I am thankful that I have never been afraid to start over and try something new.  Had I been so, I would never have moved to San Francisco in the first place, let alone picked up and relocated to Manhattan this year.  I am grateful for the quiet moments I am now able to spend with Erica, chatting over a cup of tea at the end of the workday – now in the same town!  I also feel blessed to have my own good health and that of my family.

I continue to look forward to whatever life has in store for my family, and me and grateful to still be hopeful for the good things yet to come.

Whatever is bright and beautiful, whatever means the most to you, whatever brings you happiness, and these are the things I wish for you and your family.

MERRY CHRISTMAS And A Happy Healthy New Year

Play Up Your Body Proportions

Don’t like your bum? Think your waist is too thick? Remember, everyone has something they don’t like about their figure. The secret is a little fashion camouflage.

Here are some best bets for “round figures”.

You look particularly good in

A knee length straight skirt with a top and a belt.
Wear a brighter color on top and a darker color on the bottom.
V-neck tops, dresses and  sweaters all work.
Tailored jackets nipped in at the waist.
Look for asymmetrical dresses with rushing at the middle .
Dress monochromatic (single color).
Don’t tuck your top into your pants.[One Tee one length and another one a bit longer]
Wear a boot leg jean.
Choose tunic tops.
Wear a halter-top or dress.
Trench coat styles work.
Remember, an empire waist highlights your smallest area.
Choose vertical lines and seams.

Are you a Rectangle?

You look particularly good in:

Go with a full skirt and cap sleeves to add curves.
Wear sheath dresses with a belt .
Wear fitted jackets.
Wear layers on the top.[A top with a vest or a double tee]
Choose a boot cut jean or a straight jean.
V-neck tops suit everyone.
Halter dresses and tops are good choices.
Other good choices, wrap dresses, pleated skirts, low rise jeans and skinny jeans.
Anything with shirring because it will give you an illusion of curves.

Triangle Type ?

You look Particularly  good in:

Wear detailing and texture on the top.
Wear asymmetrical tops or dresses.
Choose coats and jackets with large collars.
Simple solid colored sweater or textured tops with a skirt or pant .
Sweater or top with embellishments at the neck.
Wear a bright color on top and a dark color on the bottom.
Boatneck tops and dresses.
Opt for ruffles at the sleeve and neck.
Strong shouldered jackets.
Tailored dresses.

Blouson jacket styles and fluttery tops.

An Hourglass Figure?

You Look Particularly good in:

This figure type looks good in most fashions. (Lucky you!)
Show off your shoulders
Choose a tailored blouse
Wear straight leg, skinny or boot cut jeans
V-neck tops suit everyone.
Wear clothes that hug your figure like wrap dresses.
Cinch it is with a  waisted dress.

Are you an Inverted Triangle Type?

You’re an inverted triangle when you have broad shoulders, narrow hips and relatively slender limbs.

Defining your waist and creating curvature on your top and  bottom is the goof proof way to go.

You look particularly good in:

Tailored  shirts and jackets that have waist definition.

Straight legs tailored pants.

Soft collarless dressing

Choose V-neck tops.

Wear an a line skirt or a full skirt but a skirt with a bit of a swing to it that flutters when you walk

You can wear most lengths and styles of structured jackets if they are adequately nipped in at the waist for shape.

Wear bootleg jeans.

Strapless dresses.
Wear a darker color on top and a lighter color on the bottom.

Choose pants with side pockets.

Do Age-Old Therapies Really Work?

What is ear candling and does it really work?

Ear candling is simply an ancient remedy dating back thousands of years. It is used to cleanse the ear canal without the use of solutions or probes. Believers say it can stop headaches, ringing in the ears, migraines, ear infections, chronic sinusitis, excessive wax in the ears and much more. But it is important to note — ear candling is NOT A CURE FOR ANY DISEASE OR ILLNESS. While many believe it can bring positive health benefits, you must be the ultimate judge in determining if this time honored practice will be beneficial for you.

It is important to find someone who is trained in the process! Do your research !!! Ask questions. High quality ear candles are handmade from beeswax and unbleached cotton cloth. Through a process of convection, soft waxes and toxins will be drawn out of the ear, oxidized and turned into vapor during the procedure.

WARNING! There is no medical evidence that ear candling works. In fact, In 2007 the United States Food and Drug Administration issued an alert identifying ear candles as “dangerous to health when used in the dosage or manner” … “since the use of a lit candle in the proximity of a person’s face would carry a high risk of causing potentially severe skin/hair burns and middle ear damage.”

Can reflexology  detox your body of impurities, improve your health and change your life?

Well, it is highly unlikely that reflexology can accomplish miracles, but many people swear that there is truth to the art of restoring health through special massage technique applied to the feet.

Reflexology is a form of  treatment used in India, Japan and China for about 5,000 years!  It is said that reflexology is stimulation of the body’s healing forces through foot massage and manipulation of pressure points of the feet and hands.

Reflexology is not a “cure all” and there is little scientific evidence to support it, but those who practice the ancient art  believes it  helping the body release pain and stress and attain perfect balance.

It is NOT a medical treatment and there are few regulations about who can call themselves a “reflexologist”, so do your research and it may be best to consider it as a massage alternative. It just may bring the relief you’ve been looking for!
